Awesome ride – even better on a perfect sunny day:)

Having just ridden this track after all the hype we must say very disappointed. Other than a couple of sections of ‘off road’ it’s a smooth gravel two lane road that any road car could easily get up. Nice views but this is no real MTB track. Would hate to take visitors to this track and would be bored very fast if we had to walk it. Not worth the effort so go to Rotorua. One good thing – great coffee at Te Uku Roast Office.

Thanks for your thoughts Craig. Yes there has been a lot of hype around the track, but I don’t think the class of mountain biking on offer has been plugged too highly. You’re right in that if you’re looking for some great single track, you would be disappointed and am sorry that you were. I do have to defend the “couple of sections” though; at least two thirds of the track is off the gravel road. I guess there’s so little on offer around Raglan for mtb, that we are stoked with whatever we’re given. The club uses the track for fitness rides, and are really happy with it for this purpose, especially when riding down facing a gorgeous sunset behind Mt Karioi.
